Financial Times
The Financial Times and Nikkei will open the first joint bureau in their international editorial network in Houston, Texas.
The Financial Times has appointed energy veteran Justin Jacobs as its Houston correspondent. Jacobs, who joined the FT’s natural resources team in late 2020, joins a growing team headed by New York-based US energy editor Derek Brower, who has relaunched the FT’s Energy Source newsletter and expanded its industry coverage.
Nikkei has appointed Ryosuke Hanafusa as Houston bureau chief to expand the Japanese publisher’s coverage of the sector and the American economy more broadly. Hanafusa was previously energy editor at The Nikkei in Tokyo and earlier served as a correspondent in Cairo and Istanbul.

The Guardian 
Michael Safi and Nosheen Iqbal have been appointed as the new lead presenters of The Guardian’s flagship daily news podcast, Today in Focus. The pair will start over the coming weeks, appearing individually across different episodes. They replace Anushka Asthana who left the Guardian this month, while Rachel Humphreys will continue to present alongside Michael and Nosheen. Michael Safi is currently an International Correspondent at the Guardian and will continue to be based in Beirut. Nosheen Iqbal is currently a Reporter for the Observer.


The i paper’s Social Media Editor Tash Salmon has been appointed Audience Editor, effective from next month. Tash can be found on Twitter @Tash_Salmon

International Financing Review 
Julian Lewis
has rejoined International Financing Review (IFR) as Senior Reporter, Green/ESG Financing. In his new role he covers green bonds and other aspects of sustainable finance, working alongside Tessa Walsh in London and Tim Sifert in New York. Julian, who was bonds and derivatives editor at IFR before it became part of Refinitiv and London Stock Exchange Group, is reachable via phone or email.
