Absolute Radio has announced a special pop-up radio station, Absolute Radio 40s, in honour of the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8th May. This new pop-up, dedicated entirely to the 1940s, aims to provide a reassuringly entertaining playlist of songs from artists including Billie Holliday, The Andrews Sisters, Judy Garland, Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Gracie Fields, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Vera Lynn.

Times Radio
News UK has announced the following signings to Times Radio, which will launch this summer:

Aasmah Mir and Stig Abell will present the breakfast show Monday to Thursday. Asasmah previously presented Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4 and Stig is Editor of the Times Literary Supplement.

Luke Jones and Jenny Kleeman are to present the breakfast show Friday to Sunday. Luke has presented various BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service programmes and Jenny is a journalist, author and film-maker.

Matt Chorley, Editor of the Times Red Box podcast, will present the mid-morning slot.

Channel 4 News presenter Cathy Newman will present the primetime Times Radio drive news programme on Friday.

Weardale Community News
The Weardale Community News has been launched following the ceasing of the Weardale Gazette last year. The new free monthly publication will be available in local shops, with the intention of later distributing the newspaper to homes in the area. The Weardale Community News was founded by community interest company Weardale Community News Group. The team can be found on Facebook.

Antena Aldaia

The Spanish regional radio station Antena Aldaia has launched the new show ‘Hoy puede ser un gran día’, which is aimed at the area's older residents and offers a mixture of news and music. The show is broadcast on Tuesdays at 6pm, and can be found through their website: antenaaldaia.com.

Freelance Update - Cristina Marconi
Cristina Marconi is now a Freelance Reporter. Based in the UK since 2013, she contributes to the Italian national newspapers Il Foglio and Il Messaggero. Scottish Press Awards

The winners of the 41st Scottish Press Awards have been announced in a celebration of national and local journalism across Scotland. This year’s judging panel comprised 37 independent judges from across Scottish media, politics and public affairs. The planned awards ceremony was postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown, but it is hoped that the winners can be presented with their trophies in an event later this year. AA Gill Award
The Sunday Times' AA Gill Award for emerging food critics, in association with the Society of Editors, is now open for entries until 26 May. The winner will receive a prize of £5,000 and their review will be published in The Dish, the food section of The Sunday Times Magazine. Runner-up and third place will receive a prize of £500 and £250 respectively. The judges are Flora Gill, Jeremy Clarkson, the restaurateur Jeremy King, restaurant critic Marina O’Loughlin, and food editor, Lisa Markwell, plus Ian Murray from the Society of Editors.
