Lessons from a journalist: How to secure press coverage
Freelance journalist Suzanne Bearne, who writes for national titles including The Guardian, The Observer and the BBC and runs The Guardian's PR and Marketing Masterclass, is running two webinars in October. Part I on 3 October covers what stories journalists are looking for, finding creative ways to be featured in the press, and how presenting yourself as an expert can help land press coverage. Part II on 8 October covers how to improve your press releases and pitches, how to make the best out of all the digital platforms, and how to build relationships with journalists.

London Press Club
The London Press Club has organised a forum and Q&A session for media students to learn from the experts about entering journalism. It will be held from 6.30pm on Tuesday 8 October at Northcliffe House in Kensington, the home of the DMGT group - the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Mailonline, Metro - and also of the Evening Standard, the Independent and the i newspaper. Senior journalists from national newspapers as well as training group executives will answer questions and give advice to media students. Student journalist tickets – which cost £7.50 – can be purchased via Eventbrite.

The first event is at Shampers, 4 Kingly Street, W1, just off Regents Street at the Oxford Circus end, at 12.15 for a 12.45 start. The other venue is TBC.

David Selves will give the guests a grilling after a mixed grill meal and the audience are invited to submit questions either in advance, which will have more chance of being called, or before the meal on the date. The questioners selected will be invited to put their question from the floor as a part of the grilling process. Tickets are £27.50 each.

Headlinemoney will hold its annual Masterclass for new financial journalists on Wednesday 16 October at the Hallam Conference Centre, London W1. This free, one-day course is ideal for first/second-jobbers new to covering finance who need an intensive course in key areas.
