BSME - Does a Magazine Need Paper?

When is a magazine not a magazine? Does it have to be printed? And if not, then how does the magazine experience work best in the digital world? A bespoke website? A page turner? A one-size-fits-all app? None of the above? Making magazines work in the digital world has been one of the biggest challenges facing editors in the modern era and this event will pose all those questions to see if we can find an answer.

The panel includes Marcus Fairs of Dezeen, Tshepo Mokoena, Editorial Director of VICE.com (UK) and Ranj Begley, Managing Director and Chief Content Officer at Readly UK, and will be chaired by Charlotte Moore, Head of Content at BOTTLETOP.

The event is being hosted by five-star The Trafalgar St. James, where guests will enjoy the Hotel’s signature cocktail (or mocktail) in one of London’s best kept secrets: Rockwell, their new ‘tropical themed retreat’, before moving to Biblio, their ‘decadent’ events space for the discussion. It takes place on Monday 9 September, at 6.30-8.30pm, at The Trafalgar St James, 2 Spring Gardens, London, SW1A 2TS. Tickets are free to BSME members and £20 for guests. Click here to book.

Media Hub
The Media Hub’s next event will see criminal justice consultant and former BBC journalist, Philippa Budgen interviewing BehindBras Foundation CEO Barbara Burton. Barbara served time for fraud and developed her business idea whilst behind bars. Her mission in life now is to educate and empower women leaving prison or from disadvantaged backgrounds and enable them to work in the fashion and associated creative industries. To celebrate turning six over the summer, the Media Hub will be donating £5 of every ticket to the BehindBras Fashion Foundation (www.behindbras.org.uk). It takes place on Thursday 12 September at 7.30pm at the Bel and the Dragon in Cookham. If you need some creative inspiration, come along and bounce some ideas off other professionals in the industry and discuss future collaborations. To book a place, click here. More information about the Media Hub can be found atwww.facebook.com/groups/mediahub. For any enquiries, contact Sarah Parfitt on +44 (0)7900 411 715 and sarah_parfitt@mail.com
