In our latest episode of Media Coffee, recorded for Pride Month, we get insight on the best ways to communicate with the LGBTQ+ community.

We’re joined by Peter Williams, founder of Gayther, and Sophie Perry, founder of the LGBTQ+ Journalism Network, to discuss what PR professionals and companies should keep in mind when creating press releases for LGBTQ+ outlets.

3 recommendations for working with journalists who write for the LGBTQ+ community:

  • Define your audience and objectives, keeping in mind that the LGBTQ+ community is made up of smaller groups with different priorities and focus
  • Demonstrate an authentic interest and showing actions that have made an impact for the community, such as charity support, grants or funding
  • Take the time to understand the language of the community (asking pronouns is one example)

Gayther is a platform dedicated to bringing members of the LGBTQ+ community together through services, business listings and much more.

The LGBTQ+ Journalism Network provides network, support and resources for LGBTQ+ people working in, or studying, journalism in the UK.
